As many of you know I went to South Africa in Easter to build relief houses. In 2009 I will be going back on a much bigger scale, read below. what will we do? How do we develop our youth while making a difference in our world? Easy… build self-worth while building homes for the poor! During the two weeks of Easter break, 500 youth and adults will be constructing 20 simple buildings through URBAN SAINTS and AMOR Ministries for the poor of Grasmere, South Africa. The buildings will be timber-framed using only hand tools. The group will sleep on a local church floor, when in Johannesburg, and in tents in a secured area while in Grasmere. The emphasis of the trip will be to help others in need while being personally challenged as an individual and as a member of society. who can come? The trip is for any young person, 12+ yrs old, who is willing to do five days of hard work to help others in need. We will have time off in Johannesburg and a trip to a Safari Park. However, our emphasis will be the construction of homes for the underprivileged in the area. what will it cost? Price includes: • Return Airfare • Medical Insurance • Transportation in South Africa • Meals on work days • All building materials The cost of this trip is £1,200 a lot more than the 2008 project. Thank you so much for reading this letter, Any help towards this trip will be greatly apreciated. Thank you, Nikita Mullins http://www.justgiving.com/ruthinthugs Youth Mission Project - South Africa 2008 - Mission Accomplished Planning for 2009 is already underway. My name is Nikita Mullins and I have signed up to be a part of 100 young people and adults who will travel to South Africa to build relief housing March 20 to March 31st 2008. While sleeping in a campground with no running water, participants will build 5 houses and either a church or a school entirely from scratch as an opportunity to teach work skills and the importance of helping others to our local youth.

The service trip is based on providing practical help to the local people in South Africa, while creating cross-cultural understanding through direct exposure to their culture. Youth mission project doesn’t want a group to just build structures in a developing nation; we want young people to understand the reality of poverty through immersion.

The basic building project will be a 7m x 7m timber-framed structure with a concrete slap floor and a concrete-rendered exterior. The structure is a simple design, built according to the standards of the community, so that an unskilled group of young people with a few hand tools can still complete the project. These buildings will help the homeless, while larger structures can be used as schools, community centres, churches or medical facilities; although the final decision for use of these building will depend on the needs of the community.

How we pay for the trip is by providing simple pledge forms for hours worked to each participant and encouraging them to raise £25.00/hr to cover the cost of the building supplies, tools, food and travel costs. It is expected that the will work for 40hrs of hard labour during the trip. We need your help to make this possible/
